Report – Day 1 & 2

The first two days of the conference have been quite amazing. There are over 1000 delegates representing CUPE locals from across the nation. The mood has been extremely positive and spirits are high.

The highlight so far has been the discussion panel, “Building an economy that works”, with panelists Armine Yalnizyan, Deena Ladd, and Chrystia Freeland. Throughout the discussion it was made apparent that we as a Union need to act now and rally for change in our communities and social circles; hold our politicians more accountable for their actions.

Later in the second day we broke into our different sectors to discuss an action plan to fight back against the current anti-union climate. During the social services sector breakout session we identified who our attackers were and what they were trying to do. We also discussed our sources of strength and how we can effectively organize our membership to act in their communities.

More to come…
