Base funding tor community living agencies in Ontario has been frozen for the past seven years. The results? Over 12,000 people on wait lists for residential placements; cuts to programs and services’ and agencies that can’t afford to increase staffing.
Meanwhile, people with developmental disabilities have mental and physical health needs that are increasingly complex. They are ageing and so are the family members who support them.
The need for publicly delivered community living services has never been greater, yet recent investments in developmental services have focused on individualized services.
We need a provincial developmental services strategy to eliminate wait lists and provide adequate, safe and accessible community living services for Ontarians with developmental disabilities.
